"Theory of Relativity- An Introduction"

The theory of relativity by Albert Einstien includes the two main theories: special and genaral relativity. It explains the structure of space time.Special relativity theory is based on two postulates:

  1. The laws of physics are same for all observers in uniform motion relative to one another.

  2. Speed of light is same for all observers regardless of their motion or the motion of ligt source.

General relativity is a theory of gravitationdevelopment of general relativity began with the equivalence principle in which the states of accelarated motion and being at rest in a field are physically identical. Some of the outputs of general relativity are:

  1. Time goes slower in higher gravitational fields.

  2. Orbits precess in a way unexpected in Newton's theory of gravity.

  3. Rays of light bend in the presence of a gravitational field

  4. A rotating mass drags along the space time around it.

  5. The universe is expanding and the far parts of it are moving away from us faster than the speed of light.
